Bhutan legalized the collection of Cordyceps in 2004. Since then, the world’s most prized fungus played a significant role in enhancing lives in the highland communities. It has re-emphasized Bhutan’s culture of dependence on the mountains. However, with the warming climate, this dependence is under threat; hundreds of lives are stake. ‘In Transition’, a news documentary, records this change through a community in Wangdue Phodrang. It unfolds the truth of the disappearing fungus and its consequences. It foretells the possible return of the highlanders to their age-old nomadic culture. But most importantly, it brings to perspective the global phenomenon of Climate Change and how its trickling effects would leave a devastating impact on the socio-economic conditions of the highlanders in Bhutan.
