A 24-year-old man from Samtse is under Bumthang police custody for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl. The man was arrested last week.

The incident happened at the Department of Roads (DOR) campsite in Ura about a month ago. The girl, who is a student in one of the schools in Bumthang, went to spend time with her mother who works for DOR at Ura when the incident happened. According to police, the girl alleged that the man who also works for DOR entered her home and attempted to rape her when her mother went out to work. The man escaped when she screamed for help.

School authorities upon hearing about the incident from the rumour mill informed an NCWC focal official in Bumthang about the incident, which led to the man’s detention.

Police will forward the case to court soon.
