A 33-year-old man from Trashigang is under the custody of Trongsa police for the alleged rape of his 14-year-old stepdaughter. The girl in her statement to police alleged that the stepfather under the influence of alcohol attempted to rape her on two occasions in December last year.

According to a source, on the first night the stepfather molested the girl, and haunted by the action of her stepfather she slept with her two brothers who were aged 3 and 5 on the following night. However, when she woke up, she found her stepfather in the room and her little brothers in another room. While the suspect left the room, the girl went back to sleep despite a backache. And in the morning she noticed bloodstains on her undergarment.

The mother was working abroad.

The girl went to Bumthang sometimes in August this year to stay with her Aunt. And in September she visited Wangdicholing Hospital with symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). She was diagnosed with two STDs of gonorrhoea and genital herpes. Suspecting some foul play, the hospital forwarded the case to the police.

The suspect was arrested from Thimphu last week. And the case is still under investigation.
