dusitD2 Yarkay in Thimphu won a global award, the Luxury Contemporary Hotel 2020 from the World Luxury Hotel Awards. World Luxury Hotel Awards is the pinnacle of achievement by a luxury hotel, offering recognition for earning the respect of guests and industry players alike, and by awarding hotels, as voted for by the public, across over 100 different categories.

Hotels that have an outstanding online presence are contacted by the organization or hotels may opt to self nominate. Once nominated in a certain category, guests and customers vote for the various hotels competing for a certain category. The hotel with the highest votes wins the award.

According to a release from the dusitD2 Yarkay, such awards will serve as an incentive to all hoteliers by providing hope during stressful times, and by encouraging all hoteliers to be more creative, hard-working and to work with a fresh new perspective, where they can sustain locally and not depend on external factors like tourism.
