Educated youth and urban dwellers interested in farming will now have access to all the necessary skills and knowledge required for farming. This was made possible through a recently developed application, “Crop Advisory”. The online-based application currently has all the know-how information on four produce, tomato, chilli, cabbage and cauliflower from nursery management to harvesting.

Developed by the Agriculture Ministry and Sunrise Computer Software in India, the mobile application contains information on crops including, nursery management, field preparation and pests control. The instructions are based on video contents, texts and pictorial presentation of how a particular vegetable is grown. According to the Ministry, it was developed for interested youth, in particular, to help them with all the farming processes. The app can be also used by urban dwellers to start kitchen gardens.

“There might be many youths who might be interested in taking up agriculture farming. So for them, I think something like this app would be very useful If they do not have any prior experience or prior knowledge about agriculture farming. This was there in the plan a long time ago. In fact, this was commanded by His Majesty The King that we need some information and some kind of a tool which our people can use especially the youth and people who dwell in urban areas,” said Rinzin Dorji, the Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Forests.

The Ministry also plans to incorporate other essential crops that have more demand into the App to make farming easier. As of today, over 30 individuals have registered and downloaded the application. The Crop Advisory app is available on Google play store for download and currently works only on android phones.
