Locals of Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde are worried about the condition of the road at the servicing centre. The road which is filled with potholes has become a nuisance for daily commuters. Residents are calling for the Thromde office to carry out maintenance works on the deteriorating road.

Driving to the Servicing centre in the town has become quite inconvenient. Almost all the automobile workshops are located at the servicing centre in Samdrup Jongkhar Toed.

Workshop owners say most of their customers complain of the bad road conditions. They say more than a kilometre of the road is in a poor state and in need of repairs.

“When the road is in a bad condition like right now, it is difficult especially for smaller vehicles to drive through. And we also have a lot of problem with the dust,” said Sonam Dorji, in Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde.

“The condition of the road is not good here, it is okay for heavy vehicles but for smaller vehicles, it is quite difficult. I am not saying that the thromde is not doing anything, they used to fill up the potholes but then the potholes materialise again when heavy vehicles drive through the road,” added Jambey Wangyel, also in Samdrup Jongkhar.

According to thromde officials, they have plans to carry out maintenance works on the road. But this will be done only after a proper drainage system has been constructed. They say they have already tendered out the contract for sewerage line construction but works could not be started due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
