The Bumthang District Court sentenced two men aged 30 and 38 to non-compoundable prison terms for killing a musk deer at Wangchuck Centennial National Park in Bumthang in October, last year. The judgment was passed yesterday.

The 30-year-old has been sentenced to three years and three months in prison. Meanwhile, the 38-year-old who was also involved in a similar poaching case in 2016 has been handed down a prison term of four years, 11 months and 29 days. However, the man is still at large after he was released on bail last year. The court has issued an arrest warrant to police stations across the country. He has been convicted in absentia.

The musk pod has been seized.

A joint patrolling team of foresters, police and army intercepted the duo a year ago while the men were exiting the park from Chhoekheor Gewog after setting musk deer traps.
