The Department of Adult and Higher Education (DAHE) under the Education Ministry recognised seven Bhutanese undergraduate scholarship students for their excellence in academics from universities in Bangladesh and India, today. It is three years now since the department started with the program that honours and recognises the achievements of such students.

Of the seven students who graduated between 2017 and 2020, six are gold medallists while one received bronze. Their fields of study are medicine, statistics, occupational therapy, hospitality management, and food technology. They are serving in various capacities in the civil service as well as the corporate sector.

“I am proud of myself for having worked hard and getting recognised. Such recognition will encourage other students to work hard as well. I will continue to give my best in my endeavours and serve the country,” said Pema Dorji, a medallist, currently working as an Administrative Officer at the RICBL.

“I wish this system can continue and push our younger who are coming up and make the society a better one because not everyone has the privilege to be a scholarship recipient from the country. Big thanks to our country and our King who have always initiated to give the best education to our citizens,” said Dhan Maya Rai, also a medallist who is currently working as an assistant post production officer at the National Post Harvest Centre in Paro.

According to the DAHE, the felicitation program looks at appreciating the hard work of Bhutanese scholarship students studying in various universities abroad. At the same time, it is to encourage future students.

“I always believed that our Bhutanese scholars have tremendous potential to excel in whatever they set their mind upon with a little bit of hard work which they need to cultivate as early as possible, they have been doing very well and my department in the future would like to discuss with relevant stakeholders and find a system whereby these academic achievers are recognised, cherished and rewarded in their future career as well,” said Kesang Choden Dorji, the Director-General of DAHE.

Since the felicitation program started, the department recognised 26 scholarship students for academic excellence.
