Bumthang police arrested a 24-year-old man and three other accomplices for allegedly stealing a golden scripture (Gaytongpa Lekbam) and attempting to sell the antique.

According to police, the main suspect stole the antique from his ancestral home in Kharsa village of Chhoekhor Gewog along with an accomplice a few months ago. The duo then contacted two middlemen in Wangdue Phodrang and took the sacred scripture to Thimphu in a bid to sell it. They were unsuccessful. Police were then alerted about the missing valuable and arrested all four suspects.

Meanwhile, the antique has been recovered from Thimphu at one of the middleman’s sister’s home. The case is under further investigation and more people are likely to be implicated in the crime according to police.
