Two police personnel are under custody in Paro after a 23-year-old policeman from Phuentshogling succumbed to stab injuries on Tuesday. The incident occurred at around 11.30 pm in Baangdey town at the Paro police outpost.

The victim and three other personnel were deployed at the outpost at Baangdey town.

According to a source, the 20-year-old suspect from Khaling in Trashigang and one of the friends got into a fistfight while the victim was sleeping. When he woke up he tried to snatch the kitchen knife from the suspect’s hand and in the midst, the victim was stabbed below the left armpit.

The victim was immediately referred to the district hospital but was reported dead upon arrival.
It was also learnt that the victim and the two involved in the fight were under the influence of alcohol. A source said the suspect finished his duty at 7 pm and then went to drink and the victim who completed his duty at 11 pm joined the group.

According to Paro police, the four are on temporary deployment amid COVID-19 in Paro. They are from the Sarchap Reserve Police Force. Police are investigating the case.
