Highest single-day COVID-19 cases worldwide

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has reported the highest single-day record of Coronavirus cases worldwide. More than 300,000 cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours. The highest increases in infections were reported in India, the US and Brazil.

There are now more than 28 million confirmed cases worldwide, half of which have been in the Americas.

The WHO reported that India saw over 94,000 new cases yesterday, followed by the US with some 45,000 and Brazil with nearly 44, 000.

More than 1,000 new deaths were recorded in the US and India while Brazil recorded 874 deaths from COVID-19 related illness in the past 24 hours.

According to Johns Hopkins University, cases in the United States have crossed the 6.5 million mark while cases in India, is touching five million. Brazil, the third worst-hit country, has recorded over 4.3 million cases.

Countries across Europe are recording a rising number of daily cases amid fears of a resurgence of the virus.
