Three men arrested and quarantined for breach of border protocol and trafficking of drugs, Sarpang

Police in Sarpang apprehended a 25-year-old man from Dekiling, yesterday, for breaching COVID-19 protocols and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The suspect was found in possession of six boxes of Spasmo–Proxyvon Plus Capsules, tobacco and tobacco products.

According to sources, the suspect confessed to crossing the border illegally to sell his cattle to people of Muray, a bordering village in Assam, without the knowledge of his parents a week ago. However, police recovered some drugs from two of his friends as well. All three suspects were sent to facility quarantine in Gelegphu.

The three suspects will have to bear the expenses incurred from quarantine and COVID-19 tests. with additional 10-day community service for breaching the law of entering the country through an illegal route. Sarpang Police said they will be charged with criminal nuisance, breach of public order and tranquillity, trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substance.

Meanwhile, 13 people who have come in contact with the suspect were home quarantined yesterday. Their quarantine was lifted today after the suspect tested negative for the virus.

Following the closure of international borders since March this year, Sarpang Police arrested a total of five similar cases of smuggling tobacco and drugs from across the border.
