The University of Oxford in the United Kingdom published that Coronavirus Vaccine developed at the university appears safe and triggers an immune response. Following the results from Oxford, an Indian vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute of India announced that it would seek regulatory approval for clinical trials in India and soon start manufacturing the vaccines in larger volumes.

Serum Institute of India said they will be applying for the licensure trials to the Indian Regulator in a week. As soon as the permission is granted, the Institute will begin with the trials for the vaccine in India.  The Institute is the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer which is partnering the Oxford researchers.

According to the trial result published in The Lancet Medical Journal, the vaccine released on Monday showed positive results. Though the findings are promising and did not prompt any serious side effects, the researchers said it is still too soon to know if this is enough to offer protection and larger trials are underway.

Oxford’s vaccine is one of more than 100 being developed across the world and its human trials started on April 23. More than a million people have been infected in India by coronavirus.
