The Livestock Department aims to sterilize the entire dog population in the country by 2023 as part of the National Dog Population Management Flagship Program.

The flagship program which kicked off recently in Haa was reported as a huge success with 94 percent of the dog population in the district’s upper four Gewogs sterilised and  635 stray dogs adopted by the public.

Last week,  officials from the Livestock Department were in Bumthang to survey the district’s dog population and discuss the program implementation plans. A three-day survey found there are 4,300 dogs in the district.
