A truck driver from Chagsakhar in Monggar was detained at the Chhukha checkpoint for ferrying an illegal immigrant towards Phuentshogling without completing formalities and obtaining prior approval early this morning at around 04:15.

According to a press release from the COVID-19 Task Force, Phuentshogling (C19TF, Phuentshogling) the trucker initially declared that the passenger (illegal immigrant) covered in a blanket was his sick father. However, this was found to be untrue upon removing the blanket by the official on duty. The illegal immigrant had travelled all the way from Mongar in the same truck.

The C19TF, Phuentshogling states such selfish and irresponsible act by the transporter for personal gain is regrettable. Relevant law enforcement agencies are carrying out further investigations and legal action shall be taken against the perpetrator in accordance with due process and the rule of law.

Meanwhile, the task force urges all employers to remain extra vigilant and ensure that their foreign workers do not leave or abscond without completing formalities.
