Phuentshogling Dungkhag Court sentenced the site supervisor to four years, 11 months and 29 days in prison regarding the illegal entry of foreign workers at a private construction site at Pekarzhing under Phuentshogling thromde.

The judgement was passed yesterday.

The Royal Bhutan Police apprehended three foreign workers without any documents at a private construction site on 26th of May. The site supervisor and the three foreign workers were immediately quarantined at their own cost. They all tested negative for COVID-19.

According to a press release from the COVID-19 Task Force in Phuentshogling, the owner of the construction site could not be convicted for now due to lack of evidence. However, he is not acquitted and may be charged when additional evidence is obtained.

On the other hand, according to the defendant’s lawyer, the owner is acquitted with deferred judgment.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 Task Force reminds people to comply with the notifications and measures put in place to mitigate the risks of importation and transmission of COVID-19 in the country.
