The official handing over of Mangdechhu Hydro Power Project Authority (MHPA) in Trongsa has been finally fixed. The 720 MW hydro powerplant in Trongsa will be handed over to the Government on July 31.

Final touches inside the entrance tunnel and beautification work outside the powerhouse at Langthil-Yurmo are being carried out.

The Project’s Managing Director A.K. Mishra said that one final authority meeting would be held in June or early July for the handing taking. “Once the meeting is conducted, we will get go-ahead directions and we will start handing over.”

He added that the discussions to hand over the project to the government took almost over six months since both parties had to see the performance of the machine and gain the confidence to complete the handing over.

“Basically the delay was because of confidence-building. There were some doubts and worries that something might happen or go wrong. But now, one year has gone after the inauguration, everything is going very well so it was not a loss of time but a confidence-building time, ” said A.K Mishra.

MHPA will be celebrating its first year anniversary on June 28.
