The sixth edition of the Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition, to be held in June in Haa Dzongkhag, has been postponed due to the COVID-19 situation but that has not stopped the dzongkhag administration from carrying out the works.

Even now preparatory works are in full swing. The entire district is undergoing a major makeover, with permanent infrastructures such as improved roads, footpaths and flower gardens in every open space.

More than 90 percent of the work such as development of landscape, drainage, and installation of animal sculptures among others are complete.

According to Haa Dzongdag Kinzang Dorji, the event will be based on BUS – beautiful, unique, and sustainable. “The event will be held when the situation is better. However, we are continuing the works, as our aim is to bring about lasting transformation to the district. We shall reap the benefit from this not today or tomorrow but for years to come,” said the Dzongdag.

The restriction on the entry of foreign labour has not hindered the work as young people who have returned home after the COVID-19 crisis have filled in the labour shortage.

The Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition was initiated upon Royal Command in 2015. The event aims to develop beautiful towns and cities in Bhutan while also promoting tourism, local economy, and encouraging local floriculture businesses.
