A 21-year-old man from Dhur under Chhoekhor Gewog in Bumthang who went for Cordyceps collection died last night supposedly due to altitude sickness.

The man who went for Cordyceps collection for the very first time fell sick on Monday upon reaching the collection site. He is said to have developed a headache which intensified as he and his father started returning home. However, the man died halfway through the journey.

Soldiers of Khaktang Army Camp in Chhoekhor Toed helped carry the body and it was handed over to the family today after it was examined by police and medical personnel. They didn’t find any external injuries.

Casualties like this happen almost every year in Bumthang during the Cordyceps collection period.
