His Holiness the Je Khenpo initiated and presided over the nine-day Sangay Menlha prayer or grand Sadhana of Medicine Buddha along with over 300 monks. The ceremony ended yesterday.

And today, in an effort to pacify the aggravation of the current pandemic, the central monastic body distributed Ngagchhu (holy water) and Jinlap (sacred pills) to be distributed across Bhutan.

Constituting of sacred substances, the Ngagchhu and Jinlap, believed to be blessed by medicine Buddha is expected to liberate the beings through the taste of its essense.  Both, especially the Jinlap, have medicinal values to appease any pandemic.

“Jinlaps are same but today the main purpose of this Jinlap is to help us from the current pandemic. Moreover, it is from Sangay Menlha’s prayer that was recited for nine days. So this Jinlap is very different. If a person gets to eat this, the person will not suffer from any kind of pandemic,” said Nima Shar, a Khenpo at the Tango Dorden Tashithang Buddhist University.

People within Thimphu queued up this morning to get blessings in the university and to receive a bottle of holy water each and Jinlap.

“Coronavirus is due to previous karma, so we came here to cleanse our previous sins and hopefully we will cure the disease,” said Sonam Yoezer, a devotee.

“I am hoping that the holy water and Jinlap will help us so much because our Je Khenpo has been reciting Sangay Menlha’s prayers for a long duration,” added Nangtula, another devotee.

And according to Khenpo Nima Shar, the holy water and Jinlaps will also be distributed across the country.  “In order for each person to get access to it, we are distributing it across all the dzongkhags. Each person will get two each. The way of distributing will be done by giving it to Lam Neten of the 20 dzongkhags. In Thimphu, we gave it out to Lam from army group. They will distribute it. So people should contact Lam Neten of their dzongkhag and get it. There are chances that a person from Dratshang might also visit around to distribute it,” he said.

He added that the Dratshang is also planning to distribute it to people residing outside Bhutan after they are done distributing here. From today, Guru Tshengye Drupchhen begins and it will be conducted for seven days.
