Trashi Yangtse District Court sentenced the recently elected Boomdeling gup to three years in prison for forgery, last Wednesday. He cannot pay in lieu of imprisonment.

In 2014 and 2015, the gup availed two separate loans amounting to Nu 1.2 M from Bhutan Development Bank. He has used land ownership certificate of a farmer without his knowledge after forging documents.

The case came to light following defaults on the loan’s repayment. The landowner reported the case to the police and the gup was arrested in December, last year.

He was elected as the new gup after a bye-election in September last year. The gup was the former gewog clerk.
