In response to the emerging industry and regulatory changes, practices and developments in the financial industry, the Financial Institutions Training Institute (FITI) launched the country’s first banking certification course, Junior Associates Certification in Thimphu today.

The Distance Learning Programme is expected to provide an overall knowledge of banking and financial services for those working in the financial service sector and to further enhance their knowledge and skills.

“This is historic for financial institutions because not that we have successfully set up FITI but now we have our own flagship programme to build our human resources capacity in various financial institutions,” said Dasho Penjore, the Governor for Royal Monetary Authority during the launch of the programme.

The six-month-long duration course for a course fee of Nu 30,000 is for in-service personnel with Bachelors degree, class 10 and 12 with 5 years of work experience in various financial institutions.

Yeshey Lhamo, an associate lecturer at FITI shares the importance of the course.“This course is also known as Continuing Professional Development Programme. The course is actually to build up and enhance the knowledge of employees of Financial Institutions and also to make employees adapt to the changing industry around the world. And it is also to enhance individual professionalism,” she added.

The programme will be offered through a distance learning mode with periodic workshops and seminars to supplement learning.

Along with it, the institution also launched the Online Learning Platform whereby participants can interact with the faculties. The programme is in line with the FITI’s mission to provide lifelong learning opportunities to professionals working in the financial sector through up-gradation and certification.

To begin with, participants were provided with a set of courseware focusing on Principles and Practices of Banking, Accounting and Finance for Bankers and Legal and Regulatory Aspects of Financial Services in Bhutan.

For now, 102 participants working in various financial institutions across the country have registered for the programme.
