His Holiness the Je Khenpo is presiding over Sangay Moenlha prayer starting today at Tango Dorden Tashithang Buddhist University. It is a part of series of rituals and prayers dedicated to late Je Thrizur, Tenzin Doendup’s Parinirvana.

It is also to provide spiritual support and to cure those affected by coronavirus across the world.

300 monks led by His Holiness the Je Khenpo have started reciting Sangay Moenlha prayer since this morning.  It is believed that even hearing the recitation of the Moenlha prayer will pacify all diseases and help understand the right method to heal.

Kuenzang Thinley, the President of Tango Dorden Tashithang Buddhist University shares how reciting the Sangay Moenlha prayer benefits everyone. “All the rivers, land, flowers, mountains  across the world, not just in Bhutan will be receiving the blessings of Sangay Moenlha. If all sentient beings receive the blessing or just hear the prayers, all the diseases can be cured. Understanding such healing power of the prayer, His Holiness is heading the much-needed prayer recitation at the moment,” he said.

Moreover, Gyalsey Trulku and the Lopens conducted fire rituals (Jinsey) in four directions and the ceremony is believed to cleanse the environment from negative energies and stimulus world peace.

However, as devotees come to offer their prayers, the university has adopted preventive measures at the temple to keep the coronavirus at bay. From taps to foot-rub, infrared thermometer (temperature gun) to sanitizers, securities make sure devotees adhere to health advisories.

The President added that the university won’t be able to stop people from visiting the place but can ask them to follow basic hygiene to prevent the spread of the virus.”We can’t ask people not to come here because late Je Thrizur has many followers. So as their root guru passed away, the devoted  followers might want to pay their last respect and we can’t ask them not to do that. However, we have securities here monitoring physical distancing. Health Ministry has also provided us with taps and we have it near entry with soaps. We also have hand sanitizer,” he said.

After this prayer, the monks will start with Baza Guru recitations for another 23 days.
