While officials are busy with the COVID-19 situation, and residents complying with the government’s directives to stay at home, miscreants took advantage and vandalised three stupas (Chortens) in Bjoka Gewog under Zhemgang on the night of 1st May, last Friday.

The miscreants vandalised and robbed two Jangchub Chortens, and also attempted to strip an old Namgay Khangzang Chorten of its ‘Zung‘.

According to the gewog officials, nobody knows what relics have been stolen from the Chortens on that night but believe that the Chortens to be very old.

This is the third incident of Chorten robberies starting from 2017 in the gewog. And a total of six Chortens have been vandalised till date.

Police are investigating the case.
