A 74-year-old man Dhondup Namgyal from Kawang in Thimphu donated one thousand gold-plated copper Buddha statues, dedicated to His Majesty The King, to Tango Dorden Tashithang University in Thimphu today.

The statues were transported from Semtokha Dzong to Tango early this morning. Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering and ministers received the entourage at the Dechenphug junction, and accompanied them till Tango.

Members of the Central Monastic Body instated the statues at the Tango University, which was followed by offering of prayers in honour of His Majesty The King.

The donor, Dhondup Namgyal, sold his duplex building in Langjophakha, Thimphu to fund the statues.

He said that this is a tribute to His Majesty the King for his selfless leadership during these difficult times, for the quick relief of the pandemic across the world, and in remembrance of his late parents.
