An official of the Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park in Wangdue Phodrang sighted two black-necked cranes at Lophokha village in Athang Gewog yesterday. The cranes were sighted for the first time in the location at an elevation of 1200 metre above the sea level.

As per the Facebook page of Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, the Minister for Agriculture and Forests mentioned the cranes might have arrived, as Athang Gewog is an adjoining area to Phobji and Gangteng territory. Lyonpo also highlighted that historically black-necked cranes used to be sighted at Khotokha and upper Athang Gewog.

Likewise in the Facebook page, the Chief Forestry Officer also said the endangered birds must have disoriented or missed the direction of its way to summer roosting ground as it is their departure time.
