The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Bhutan asks the general public to be wary of misinformation and fake news surrounding Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

Some individuals purporting to be a UNICEF communication shared that avoiding ice cream and other cold foods can help prevent the onset of the disease on various social media platforms. According to a press release from the UNICEF, this information is not true and it is not from UNICEF.

The office urges people to stop sharing misinformation which will mislead the general public and expose them to the virus. People are asked to seek accurate information on how to be safe from verified sources, such as the official pages of UNICEF, the WHO, and the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, people sick with flu-like symptoms including fever or shortness of breath, a cough or a respiratory illness, are asked to immediately call 112 or the COVID-19 hotline number: 2121 and seek medical attention.
