Business entities at the Industrial Service Center worried about shortage of water

Water is a scarce resource for a few clients at the new Industrial Service Center in Gelegphu Thromde. Their grievance over the matter was highlighted during a recent coordination meeting with the Thromde Administration. They want the office to intervene with a viable solution.

Three brick manufacturing units and four carwash operations are bearing the brunt of the limited water supply.  According to its owners, their business entities are unable to provide quality services. Today, they receive water for three hours in a day through the thromde’s drinking water supply.

“The water supply we get is insufficient even for drinking. The need is more. For instance, a car wash needs water for servicing vehicles while a brick manufacturing has to do curing of its bricks using water,” said Sonam Dorji, from the industrial service centre in Gelegphu.

“What Thromde is doing is a great job but at a certain point of time, we feel water supply is not adequate. For this kind of professional services which do not require specialized water service, I think, maybe some sort of mechanism should be developed to provide adequate water supply,” added Kamal Pradhan, also from the industrial service centre in Gelegphu.

Gelegphu Thrompon said the shortage is due to underutilization of the thromde’s bore-well. At the moment, low power supply and long hours of use of water pump lead to circuit breaker trip. This affects the supply of water from the well into the tanks. The Thrompon said the problem will be looked into.

“We have already said that we care for the industrial service centre because that is the only small spot we could generate some little bit of money. We are concerned and we have to make the it into a beautiful place,” said Tikaram Khaflay, the Gelegphu Thrompon.

He further explained that supplying water from the well, which is treated for drinking, to the manufacturing units and car wash will be expensive for the office. Instead, the thromde is exploring an alternative water source for daily use of the business entities at the Industrial Service Centre.
