Every student across the country will be encouraged to be a part of Chey Chey Scouts. The decision came out after the Chey Chey Scouts guideline was endorsed during a three-day conference in Phuentshogling.

Dzongkhag Scouts secretaries, regional training coordinators and Rovers representatives from dzongkhags and thromdes converged in Phuentshogling to review and deliberate issues pertaining to scouting. Encouraging all the students up to class three in Chey Chey Scouts was also one of the highlights of the conference. According to the officials from Bhutan Scouts Association (BSA), positive feedback from parents and communities encouraged the Association to include more students in scouts.

“So far, we didn’t have guidelines to how to carry out Chey Chey scouting. In this conference, we have endorsed Chey Chey Scouts guidelines. This will help all the Scout Leaders to carry out the activities and programmes regarding Chey Chey scouting uniformly across the nation,” said Ugyen Zangmo, the Scouts’ secretary at Chhukha.

“If we are able to instil the values and good practices right from age five to six then when they grow up, the strong foundation in them helps to be a productive citizen. We feel that the exposure and values Chey Chey Scouts get are very paramount in this era,” added Phub Wangdi, the Scouts’ secretary of Dagana.

As of now, there are over 13,000 Chey Chey Scouts members across the country. The total number of scouts has reached nearly 60,000. The conference ended yesterday.
