Commuters along the Damphu-Sunkosh primary national highway will soon find the ride more pleasant as the maintenance works of the 20-kilometre road have started recently.

Today, the works to fill-up potholes along the high way is underway. More than a kilometre is completed so far. The blacktopping works will commence once the filling up of potholes is complete.

Commuters have been facing bumpy rides for about a decade now. Huge potholes, dusty in winter and muddy in summer have been the story of this highway for quite a long time. But now, most commuters are delighted to see the road maintenance works.

“I am driver and earlier the road condition was very bad and it used to take two and half hours to reach Sunkosh from here. But now works are underway to blacktop the road and it will take less time to reach down. Often our vehicles used to get damaged,” said Nima Sangay Sherpa, a driver.

“The road condition is bad along this highway and our vehicles are getting damaged. But now repairing works are underway and this will benefit us,” added Kharka Singh Tamang, from Tsirang.

The Department of Roads (DoR) is executing the repairing works with an allocated budget of Nu 20 M and expected to complete by June this year. However, the Executive Engineer from the DoR in Tsirang says, the approved budget can complete the maintenance of only five-kilometre stretch of road. He said the budget for maintenance of the remaining eight kilometres will be from next fiscal year.
