On the road to recovery, Baby Yudra

Baby Yudra, who was able to complete a liver transplant surgery with the help of an online campaign, is on the road to recovery. Just recently, he returned to the country after undergoing his second surgery in India. His father who is also the donor of the liver says their baby is in a much healthier condition.

Just in time to celebrate the start of the Lunar New Year, Baby Yudra Tshering Zeepa is back after his second surgery. However, the family instead of enjoying the day with the sumptuous food chose to go to a Lhakhang to offer prayers as a gratitude for the successful surgery.

Yudra was about two months old when he was diagnosed with severe Jaundice. He was able to complete a liver transplant surgery with the help of a social media campaign organized by three individuals which raised around Nu 3 M.

Today Yudra is 15 months of age and his father says he wouldn’t have been here with them right now if it wasn’t for the people who donated for the surgery.

“We have come this far. Now the doctors had advised us to be more careful now than before. Before it was all surgery but now they say that if both the donor and receiver are not taken care of, it is similar to no surgery,” said Dechen Wangchuk, the father.

The first surgery took place in December last year. However, due to complications, Yudra had to undergo a second surgery.

A second campaign was again organized which raised Nu 1 M.

Dechen Wangchuk, his father donated 34 percent of his liver to his son. He says they are both getting better with time. And now feisty little Yudra has literally more of his father inside him than anyone can guess.
