The 30-kilometre farm road from Ueling to Mangdephu under Nubi Gewog in Trongsa is in a bad condition. Local residents say their expectation for a smooth and comfortable ride has always been just a dream despite several requests to concerned authorities.

The farm road remains impassable in summer. Residents say the road is suitable only for power tillers and tractors. Otherwise, one has to walk carrying everything on their back.

“In summer, horses and power tillers are the only two mode of transportation. But power tillers also get stuck and we have to pull with loads on our back. And the ice in winter is another problem,” said Jampay Lhendup, from Mangdephu.

“Taxis are not willing to come due to the bad road condition. It is a problem during emergencies as hospitals are very far. So we would be grateful if the road could be maintained,” shared Tandin, from Jongthang.

“It takes almost four hours to cover a distance which would normally take an hour. Problems might be similar in other places. Though we can grow varieties of crops and cereals, the road is a big problem for us. So we cannot work and develop like other places,” added Sangay Dorji, from the same village.

For now, the gewog and the Dzongkhag have no budget. They say the minor maintenance is carried out wherever and whenever necessary.
