To enable citizens to participate and contribute ideas for the 21st Century Economic Roadmap, the Gross National Happiness Commission (GNHC) launched the website and social media platforms on 23rd of this month. Bhutan’s 21st Century Economic roadmap, which will be developed within this year, is expected to guide the county’s economic development over the next ten years.

The Prime Minister launched the website and it can be accessed through http://economicroadmap.gnhc.gov.bt

The launch of the website is another step towards the development of economic roadmap. While different committees and groups have already been formed to work on the roadmap, the website is expected to engage all citizens of the country.

According to the commission, this will help strengthen understanding of the direction Bhutan must head and create a strong sense of ownership and responsibility for the country’s progress.

The need to develop a clear economic roadmap for the 21st century is to create economic opportunities for the next generation was one of the key messages from the Royal Address during the National Day.

Since then, a High-Level Roundtable Committee was instituted. The formulation of the roadmap will be spearheaded by a National taskforce which has eleven members from different sectors beyond the civil service. They will be planning over the next 12 months and final proposals will be submitted to the high-level round table committee led by the Prime Minister.
