There were concerns raised by many people that the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Haa and Samtse was ‘timed’.  The visit, especially to Haa, where Opposition Leader comes from, many observers say, was to garner support from the constituencies there.  Answering the question raised by the media at the ‘Meet the Press’ today on the purpose of the visit, Lyonchhoen said he went there to evaluate the projects being implemented in remote areas.

“It has been about four years since we implemented the 10th Five Year Plan and as per the objective of the 10th plan, we have to reduce poverty in the country. Poverty in the country lies mainly in such difficult places. We must also see what the necessary support needed in these places.”

Prime Minister also said he had reasons to visit Haa than any other places as he had not been to Southern parts of Haa in the last five years.

Lyonchhoen walked for seven days from Haa to Samtse meeting with people and local leaders.

Also during the press meet today, Lyonchhoen announced that the theme of the next five year plan would most likely be ‘Rural Prosperity’.
