The Government is almost done preparing for the admission of pre-primary children from age 5 onwards into schools. This was revealed during the question hour session of the National Assembly today.

The Member of Parliament of Maenbi Tsaenkhar asked theEducation Minister about it.

“There are lots of problems in the system as of now. When I talked with education officials and teachers, they say that the government did everything so quickly without proper research and preparation. We are concerned about the preparedness and availability of facilities. The current curriculum is made for children above the age of six. Will it be the same for five-year-olds or will it be revised?” asked Choki Gyeltshen, the Maenbi Tsaenkhar MP.

To this, the Education Minister said that all the necessary works are underway and that the children admission will commence next month.

“From this year on we have decided to prepare the National Education Policy and the works are underway. The government has also decided to bring down the pre-primary admission age to exactly 5 years. Regarding infrastructure, when we did a study, an additional 140 classrooms are required to be constructed. Not just classrooms but also other facilities such as toilets and other such facilities. Building infrastructures is not enough. We need additional teachers. We have estimated 2070 additional teachers. When we discussed with the Royal Education Council, they say nothing is wrong with the curriculum. The enrolment of PP students will commence from 30th of March,” informed Jai Bir Rai, the Education Minister.

The admissions for the first batch of pre-primary students will be done on 13th February and the next batch will be done on 30th March 2020.
