A 2-storey staff quarter of a librarian and a cook working at Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research at Lamoigoenpa in Bumthang was razed to the ground at around 11 am this morning.

It took more than two hours for the Police, staff and trainees of Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research and locals to contain the fire.

No properties could be salvaged from the fire. There are no casualties reported as none of the members of the two families were at home when the fire broke out.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established, however, police suspect the fire to have started from a wood-fed stove (Bukhari).

Lamoigoenpa, where the incident happened is about 3 kilometres from Jakar Dzong.

The affected families are currently staying with their neighbours.
