The 3rd Session of the NA to deliberate mostly on Tax Bills

The upcoming session of the National Assembly will deliberate mostly on Tax Bills. The Session which will begin from the 15th of this month will deliberate on two new Tax Bills and seven Amendment Tax Bills among other important Bills.

The National Assembly Speaker, Wangchuk Namgyel said the Third Session of the National Assembly will see deliberations on Goods and Services Tax, Property Tax, Income Tax and Tax Bill of Bhutan 2020.

“We have two new Tax Bills and seven Amendment Tax Bills to be deliberated for approval during the upcoming Session. Therefore, the Session duration will be around 35 days excluding weekends and government holidays. We have also two new Bills for deliberation from the National Council this time,” said Wangchuk Namgyel, the National Assembly Speaker.

The House will also deliberate on some Bills such as Tourism Levy Exemption, Fiscal Incentive, Pay Revision Bill, Mines and Minerals Bill, Ministers and Equivalent Post Holder’s Entitlement Bill, Impeachment Procedure Bill 2019.

The Speaker said, the National Assembly this time will also approve few conventions and agreements that need immediate attention.

“Apart from the deliberations on Taxes and Bills, we will be also deliberating and approving the agreement on Terrorism and Organized Crime which is practised in the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) region. Similarly, we will be approving convention on the SAARC Development Fund,” the Speaker added.

The Session will also discuss on Operations and Management of Farm Shops, and to include Small Development Projects and Common Minimum Infrastructure budgets directly with the gewog budgets. Both petitions were forwarded from Zhemgang Dzongkhag Tshogdu. The Public Accounts Committee will also present the Royal Audit Authority Report 2018 during the Joint Sitting.

The Third Session of the National Assembly will conclude on March 6.
