An eight-year-old boy died in a house fire in Jomotshangkha, Samdrup Jongkhar yesterday. The fire, which started at around 10:30 PM, has gutted down a semi-permanent house.

According to a source, the father wasn’t home and the boy was with his two sisters during the time of the accident. The 13-year-old elder sister saved the 5-year-old younger sister but couldn’t save her brother. The sisters have sustained some burn injury on the hands and are currently kept under medical observation at Jomotshangkha BHU.

Candlelight is suspected to be the cause of the fire as Jomotshangkha did not have a power supply during the time of the incident.

The affected family received semso from His Majesty’s office.
