Some vendors who have been meaning to set up game stalls at the Gelegphu Tshechu are disappointed. The Sarpang Dzongkhag decided to ban games at the Tshechu this time. The three-day Gelegphu Tshechu began yesterday.
Vendors have come from other dzongkhags to set up dart, card and lucky dip games stalls at the Tshechu in the hope of earning some cash.
“I have been to Tshechus in other dzongkhags. We were allowed to set up game stalls. But Gelegphu Tshechu has banned all activities related to games. We paid rental charges of Nu 8000 on private land, we have even approached the thromde and the dzongkhag. But they said we can sell the items but not run gaming stalls. We have come from far places,” said Jigme Choda
“I have come from Bumthang with children’s toys like Mickey mouse. There are different types of games. But mine is also included under gambling activities,” added Tshering
According to Sarpang Dzongkhag, gaming is illegal and creates noise pollution and disharmony in the community.
The Gelegphu Thromde has alloted around 40 plots for the vendors to set up stalls at the Tshechu. Each stall is charged a rental fee of Nu 1500 excluding the service charge of Nu 800.
