Nine people acquitted in relation to RICBL embezzlement case

Paro Court today acquitted 8 tellers and authorizers of Bhutan National Bank Limited/BNBL of all the charges in relation to the Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan Limited/RICBL embezzlement case. They were charged for participation in offence, omission amounting to an abuse of function and concealment of corruption.

However, Choedup Drukpa, one of the 8 employees is asked to pay restitution of Nu 100,000 to RICBL.

And karma Rinzin, a private individual who was also accused of participation in the offence is acquitted.  He was asked to restitute Nu 500,000 to RICBL.

The restitution amount should be paid within 10 days.

As per the judgment passed today, the acquitted8 BNBL employees are entitled to all the benefits, promotions, training and bonus that were halted for the last two years.

OAG had initially charged 22 people for embezzlement of Nu 140 million. Of which 8 were found guilty yesterday and 9 were acquitted today. The verdict for 5 other people involved will be passed tomorrow.
