In the judgement passed today by the Paro District Court, Bhutan National Bank Limited was asked to pay Nu 25 million as Specific Relief to the Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan Limited until all the amount embezzled by the individuals involved is restituted.
The relief amount should be paid within one month from today. This was for not properly monitoring and managing the employees and not protecting the system passwords which actually led to the embezzlement case.
Tellers and authorizers working with BNBL had passed cheques that are forged and made payment to Rinchen Wangdi without verifying and the authorizer’s signature. Rinchen Wangdi who worked with the RICBL as an accountant was alleged of embezzling Nu 140 million. In the judgment passed today, he is sentenced for embezzlement, forgery, participation in the offence and tampering document. He is also asked to restitute more than Nu 63 million to RICBL within 10 days.
