Despite a remarkable performance, the dragon boys had to settle for silver in the finals of the men’s under-23 football today. With this Bhutan’s dream for gold ended. However, it is a historic moment for Bhutan Football Federation as they reached the finals in the South Asian Games (SAG) for the first time.

The run for gold came to an end today for Bhutan, as the host nation, Nepal kept the Bhutanese strikers at bay. The host nation took an early lead in the 17th minute of the game bruising the Bhutanese hope, but Checho Gyeltshen was yet again there to keep the hope alive with his much-needed equalizer in the 37th minute.

The game went on a one-one draw in the first half. The Bhutanese side conceded yet another goal after the half time whistle when Nepal scored a header in the 54th minute. The game ended 2-1 in favour of Nepal. However, the silver medal from this game adds to Bhutan’s medal tally taking it to 20 medals from the SAG.
