To eliminate inferior quality, underweight and adulterated rice products in the country, Food Corporation of Bhutan (FCB) has launched four new rice products yesterday. The rice products come with a brand name Zheychum and are designed and packed with local aesthetics.

The rice products, Zheychum Chogjur, Zheychum Dangpa, Zheychum Gongma and Zheychum Kuenga, are chosen from the finest paddy grown in India to ensure delectable taste suited for the Bhutanese. Zheychum Chogjur, the premium basmati rice will be sold at Nu 53 per kilogram, while Zheychum Kuenga, the stone-free rice will cost Nu 25 per kilogram. The rice products will be available across the country through FCB depots within a week time.

“We are introducing this in order to provide good quality rice at a reasonable price. We will also make sure to eliminate the underweight of rice bags. We want to make sure that our customers trust our products. Similarly, we hope that other rice dealers in the country will also look at us and provide good quality rice to our people,” said Dorji Tashi, the Director for the department of corporate business at the FCB in Phuentshogling.

The FCB also plans to launch local rice products in the near future. Currently, homegrown rice is not enough to fulfil the demand of the people.
