‘I am Sonam Kuenga Namgyel’ bags maximum trophies

The film “I am Sonam Kuenga Namgyel” took home maximum trophies during the 11th National Film Award held in the capital yesterday. The film got 10 trophies. The film was produced by Kuenley Tshering Dorji of Druk Gi Melong Production house. Of the 26 films produced last year 21 films were selected.

Ugyen Dorji, the lead actor of the movie “Ata Yongba” walked away with the best actor male award and the best female actor award went to Tsokye Tsomo Karchung for the movie ‘Shar Chogpa Zamin’.

Actors Kinley Rinzin Dorji and Yeshey Choden were presented trophies for the best new comer.  Meanwhile, the best singers, male and female, were bagged by Pema Samdrup and Pema Lhamo from the Royal Academy of Performing Arts.

Her Majesty the Queen Mother Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck graced the award ceremony.  The trophies and certificates were awarded by Her Royal Highness Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck.

Cash prizes were awarded to only those films which have contributed in promoting culture, create awareness on social and youth issues. Ashi Nangsa was awarded the best culture based movie, Ata Yongba for movie with youth and social message, and Choe Min for promoting the National Language.

The event was organised by the Motion Pictures Association of Bhutan with financial support from the Department of Culture.
