The Gelegphu Thromde terminated the lease agreements of 10 plots at the Industrial Service Centre in Tashiling constituency, last month. According to the Thromde, it is a result of lack of work progress at their sites. The plot owners have been asked to surrender their lease agreement and land lease certificate.

The Thromde said the owners of the 10 plots failed to complete the construction works at the allotted plots even after an extension of the deadline by nine months. Initially, the works were supposed to be completed by December 2018. The plots include five automobile workshops, three manufacturing units, a car wash and a godown.

“Certain development has been carried out, it is true. When committee from here went for verification, the main objective was whether they have started, completed the construction or not. So these ten owners have not even started, that’s why they have picked up these ten names and the administration has terminated them,”  said Tikaram Kafley, the Thrompon for Gelegphu Thromde.

He added some of the owners of the plots who have invested in site development at their allotted plots and could not start construction will be looked upon by the committee and accordingly decision will be taken:

“The thromde will look into what percentage of work they have done, and some of the plot owners input seem logical, they have invested at least for the site development. There are owners who have never turned up and it shows that it is complete negligence on their part. So these two issues will be looked into by the committee and accordingly the decision will be taken.”

Meanwhile, the affected plot owners appealed to the Thromde last week to reconsider its decision. They said most works could not be completed during the summer delaying timely completion. At the same time, some of them said the building permit was approved in July 2018 with a two-year-validity. So, the plot owners have until July 2020 to complete the constructions.

The Industrial Service Area spreads across 111.5 acres of land. Its leasable plots, which amount to 46.94 acres, were allotted through a lucky dip format to provide equal opportunity to all participants.
