Despite increased awareness efforts, health experts say people with mental health issues still do not come to seek medical help. According to the Bhutan Mental Health Strategy and Action Plan 2015 to 2023, suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth and adults in the country.

Records with the health ministry reveal that around seven Bhutanese commit suicide every month. More than ninety suicide cases were reported in the country last year. And of the total cases registered, the highest numbers were between the ages of 21 and 40 years.
