The Lhamoi Dzingkha Dungkhag Court in Dagana, on 25th of this month, sentenced a 35-year-old man to 23 years in prison for the rape of his own underage daughters.

He was found guilty of two counts of rape of a child above twelve years of age and guilty of two counts of incest and battery.

The convict who was working as a technician in one of the Basic Health Units engaged in sexual relations with his daughters who were minors. The two daughters, who are from different mothers, were raped on several accounts and the incident started since 2015 with the elder sister. The elder sister who is a student in one of the schools in Pemagatshel is 17 years old and her father forced on her when she was a student in one of the schools in Lhamoi Dzingkha. She was threatened if she spoke about the crime to others. She was also provided with contraceptive pills to avoid pregnancy.

Meanwhile, the convict did not spare the younger daughter who was 14 years today and 13 when the first incident took place. The convict visited the girl twice to thrice in a month and fed her contraceptive pills. The little girl was also made to check her urines on a regular basis to avoid pregnancy.

This continued till April this year when the convict caught her having a relationship with a boy from her school. The convict battered her and the present wife who came to save the girl from the beatings. The convict then complained to a teacher in the school who is also the focal person for RENEW about his daughter and her boyfriend. The inquiry unearthed the incest and brutal crimes of the convict, which was then forwarded to the police.

He was arrested in April this year. He was slapped with a consecutive sentence of 10 years each for the rape of the two minors and three years for Incest and Battery.

However, the convict can appeal to the higher court within 10 days.
