After establishing MagneSSa Bhutan and Orien’s Bhutan operating pyramid scheme business, the Office of Consumer Protection (OCP) now plans to investigate some other informal business entities in the country.

The OCP said, there is some prima facie evidence in the market which is similar to MagneSSa Bhutan and Orien’s Bhutan.

The OCP listed four suspected products that will be investigated. These include Avon, Amway, Oriflame and DXN. The Chief Programme Officer from the OCP said, though these products belong to certified companies, there is suspect of group formations, extorting members, compelling its members to endlessly recruit down-line members to earn promised rewards and commissions.

“Now we are going to focus on other business practices which are similar to a pyramid scheme that are being operated by these two entities. So, we are not going to do it alone, we are going to involve various stakeholders,” said Jigme Dorji, the Chief Programme Officer for OCP at MoEA.

The OCP will carry out an investigation in collaboration with the Royal Monetary Authority, the Department of Trade, Drug Regulatory Authority, the Regional Trade and Industry offices and the Royal Bhutan Police.
