A herd of wild elephants has destroyed more than an acre of a private nursery farm along Sarpang-Gelegphu highway early this morning.
The owner of the P.K Organic Farm Mai Raj Gurung says the elephants have damaged almost an acre of pulse plantation and a half an acre of field readied for chilli transplantation.
“It is the third time now. During the first time, forestry officials came and helped us to chase the elephants. But today they could not come. The elephants have damaged my fields like last time,” Mani Raj Gurung said.
He added that it was disheartening to see his hard work go in vain.
According to the Gelegphu Forest Range Office In Charge, they stationed four forestry officials in office every night on a rotational basis to attend a call from people to assist them in chasing away the elephants from their area. He said they are doing their best to provide assistance to communities.
