A 30-year-old woman from Tangsibji Gewog died on the spot during a marathon organized in the gewog by Tshangkha Central School under Trongsa Dzongkhag on last Sunday.
The cause of death is suspected to be cardiac arrest. According to a health official, the deceased, a mother of three, completed about 2 kilometres before she fell.
Coinciding with the World Heart Day, the school in collaboration with the gewog organized the 17 km marathon to mark the day and to create awareness on the increasing heart diseases in the Bhutanese society.
